Associate Project Engineer Solar

Job Description 

CleanChoice Energy is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate Project Engineer to join our Generation team. The Associate Project Engineer will assist in the planning, design, and execution of solar energy projects from inception to completion. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the renewable energy industry and contribute to the growth and sustainability of CleanChoice Energy's fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Development Engineering: Support development efforts by conducting site constraints maps, layout optimizations, energy assessments and interconnection applications.
  • Site Assessment: Conduct site visits to evaluate and assess the suitability of locations for solar installations. 
  • Technical due diligence on project acquisitions utilizing internal and external resources.
  • Design and Engineering: Manage the 3rd party design of civil, electrical, structural and SCADA up to a 30% design level.
  • EPC bid support: Assist in managing the EPC bid and bid review process.
  • Design Review: Manage the review of design drawings and studies up to an Issued for Construction and As Recorded level.
  • Permitting and Compliance: Assist in obtaining necessary permits and ensure projects adhere to local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
  • Independent Engineering Support: Work with project finance and transactions to meet the obligations of independent engineers for project financing. 
  • Project Support: Assist external and senior engineers in the development and execution of solar energy projects. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Technical Documentation: Manage and maintain project documentation, including drawings, schematics, specifications, and project reports.
  • Quality Assurance: Support quality control processes to ensure that installations meet the highest standards of performance and safety.
  • Commissioning and Closeout: Support project commissioning and close out requirements by managing documentation requirements.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure project timelines and expectations are met.
  • Other responsibilities, as requested.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or other relevant design software.
  • Knowledge of solar energy systems and industry trends.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and regulations (NEC, IBC, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Willingness to travel for site assessments and project inspections.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
    • Experience with solar project design and implementation.
    • Experience with PVsyst.
    • Experience with PVCase.
    • Experience with Construction Management Software (i.e. Procore).

Travel

  • This is a remote position with approximately 25% travel required which can include project sites, industry events, land use hearings, stakeholder engagement meetings, team meetings, and CleanChoice events.
