Job Description
This Asset Management role is responsible for overseeing the financial performance, compliance, and investor relations for our portfolio of operating utility-scale solar projects. The Director of Asset Management serves as the primary steward of CleanChoice’s operating assets, ensuring that each project meets its financial, contractual, and regulatory obligations and maintains compliance with all financing and investment agreements. The ideal candidate has direct experience in renewable energy asset management, preferably within utility-scale solar, and excels at balancing analytical rigor with strong stakeholder communication.
Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Performance Monitoring
- Monitor project budgets, cash flows, and performance against financial models and forecasts.
- Coordinate with Finance and Accounting on monthly closes, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
- Ensure payments to lenders and investors are made timely, in coordination with Finance and Accounting.
- Oversee project security (e.g., decommissioning bonds), ensuring compliance with relevant requirements.
- Deliver Certificates of Insurance to parties as needed under loan or other agreements.
- Track and optimize all project revenue streams, including energy sales, renewable energy credits (RECs), and capacity payments.
- Identify and execute opportunities to improve project profitability and reduce operating costs.
- Performance Analysis: Compare actual vs. expected energy production and investigate underperformance.
- Collaborate with Operations & Maintenance team to stay informed & communicate technical asset performance and operations and maintenance updates.
- Investor & Lender Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for project investors, lenders, and tax equity partners.
- Prepare and deliver recurring investor and lender reports summarizing project performance, key risks, and compliance status.
- Manage obligations under loan agreements, tax equity documents, and investment tax credit (ITC) compliance frameworks.
- Support audits, refinancing activities, and investor requests for data, documentation, and performance updates.
- Maintain strong, transparent communication channels to ensure investor confidence and satisfaction.
- Contract, Regulatory & Compliance Administration
- Manage compliance with all project-level agreements, including PPAs, interconnection agreements, land leases, loan documents, and O&M contracts.
- Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including environmental, safety, permitting, and energy market reporting obligations.
- Track and maintain documentation for all loan covenants, tax equity conditions, and ITC qualification requirements, ensuring continuous eligibility and audit readiness.
- Maintain relationships with utilities, offtakers, landowners, and other counterparties to ensure smooth operations and contractual adherence.
- Coordinate responses to audits, insurance renewals, and third-party reviews.
- Reporting & Analytics
- Produce detailed internal and external reports summarizing financial results, operational performance, and key portfolio metrics. This includes monthly reporting to management.
- Use data analytics tools and monitoring platforms to identify performance trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain a centralized database and dashboard for all asset management records, compliance logs, and investor deliverables.
- Strategic Support
- Support due diligence and transition of new projects from construction or acquisition into commercial operation.
- Collaborate with the Engineering and Project Execution teams to capture lessons learned and apply them to future project design and contracting.
- Contribute to corporate ESG, sustainability, and impact reporting initiatives.
- Technology & Software Management
- Utilize appropriate or dedicated asset management platforms for performance monitoring.
- Implement tools to improve decision-making and predictive maintenance.
- Risk Management
- Collaborate with Accounting team to ensure adequate insurance policies (property, liability, business interruption) and claims handling.
- Risk Mitigation: Work with Subject Matter Experts to identify and implement risk mitigation strategies (cybersecurity, physical security, etc.).
- Environmental, Social, and Governance
- Environmental Impact: Track and report on environmental performance metrics.
- Community Engagement: Coordinate with facilities local communities as needed.
- Sustainability Goals: Align with corporate environmental and Clean Choice Promise goals, social, and governance goals and reporting standards.
- Lifecycle Management & End-of-Life Planning
- Asset Life Planning: Collaborate with O&M Team to monitor aging equipment and plan for repowering or decommissioning.
- Decommissioning Plans: Work with O&M Team to develop, plan, and execute responsible site closure and restoration when necessary.
- Recycling & Disposal: Coordinate recycling or responsible disposal of solar panels and batteries.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 4 years of experience in renewable energy asset management or related project operations; utility-scale solar experience required.
- Strong understanding of project finance, tax equity, and loan structures.
- Experience managing investor and lender relationships, preparing financial and operational reports, and overseeing compliance with financing documents.
- Working knowledge of regulatory reporting under FERC, NERC, RTO/ISO, and state energy agencies.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills; adept at managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Travel
- CleanChoice Energy is a remote-first work environment with regular travel to project sites and CleanChoice offices as needed (estimated 25–40%).
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet critical deadlines or attend site visits.
